On Tuesday, December 16, the United States government announced new travel restrictions on several countries around the world, including the Caribbean nations of Dominica and Antigua & Barbuda.
This news changes the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) market significantly. While its neighbors face new bans, Grenada remains a trusted partner to the USA.
The Problem for Dominica and Antigua & Barbuda
There are five Caribbean nations that offer CBI programs. Until now, they offered similar travel benefits. However, this new U.S. announcement separates them.
According to the specific list from the White House, the U.S. will stop issuing many types of visas to citizens of Dominica and Antigua & Barbuda. The U.S. government explained the reasons for this decision. They cited concerns about corruption, problems with fake or unreliable documents, and difficulties in checking the background of citizens.
Grenada: The Unaffected Alternative
Grenada is not included in the list of countries hit with new U.S. travel restrictions. Grenada is completely unaffected by these new rules.
Furthermore, Grenada actually offers an additional advantage that no other Caribbean CBI nation has. Grenada is the only one of the five countries with an E-2 Investor Visa treaty with the United States.
This treaty allows citizens of Grenada to apply for a special U.S. visa. With an E-2 visa, you can move to the United States to live and work if you invest in and manage a U.S. business. Dominica, Antigua, St. Kitts, and St. Lucia do not have this benefit.
The Grenada National Resort Advantage
Choosing the right country for your second passport is now more critical than ever. The new U.S. restrictions on neighboring islands – which fully enter into force on January 1, 2026 – make those citizenships less attractive for CBI investors who want to do business in North America.
Grenada’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Program has earned a strong global reputation for trust and transparency. By investing in the Grenada National Resort, you can secure a second citizenship that offers exceptional benefits, including visa-free (or visa on arrival access) to 140+ countries around the world as well as the aforementioned unique access to the U.S.
